Pair of Art Deco Bathing Beauties Polychrome Bookends Circa 1930 - image 1 of 10

A pair of very sculptural and artistic bookends from the Art Deco period that show movement and fashion. These bookends are rare and hard to find.

The heavy large pair of gray metal molded bookends depict 1930’s bathing beauties in swimsuits of the day and bathing robes with detailed folds in thick green enamel. They are stepping down red and gold steps to a bronze colored beach. They have good deep, detailed casting. Their faces, hands, legs and shoulders were gilded. The backs of the bookends have a textured gilt finish.

The bookends have molded marks on the back of the base that read PAT APPL FOR and the production number 514.

5” (12.7 cm) wide x 3 7/8” (9.8 cm) deep x 8 ½” (21.6 cm) tall. Weighs 8 lbs 7.5 oz (3840 g)

There are no breaks, cracks, chips or repairs. They have significant losses to the gold patina and the red enamel on the bases. There are also smaller losses on the green enamel on the robes. They are missing felts on the bases.

A very heavy pair of Art Deco bookends that will have a very large presence on a shelf or table.
