You are viewing a very rare and perfect example of a hand made necklace from the Arts and Crafts Period. This piece is hand constructed from end to end and a piece you will not see in today's marketplace. The abstract material within these quartz stones is black tourmaline, and these rectangular gems are coupled with oval twist sterling links. All links are soldered making this piece untouched and in its original form. One very interesting detail is the way the gem is set. If you look closely you will see that going through one side of the stone is a sterling bar that is attached to the side of the oval frame, but it stops at the end of the bead and isn't attached to the other side of the frame. This type of setting makes this piece a real standout and extremely unique.
Total length of this necklace is 36 inches in length (from clasp to end loop) by just shy of a ½ inch in width. Each stone link with sterling border measures 5/8 inches in length and a ½ inch in width. The barley sugar twist oval sterling links without stones measure 13/16 in length by ¼ in width. All links are slightly different in width x length as this piece is totally hand made. Total weight of necklace including stones is 2.2 ounces.
This one-of-a-kind art piece may be worn as a rope or doubled up around the neck as it comes with a sterling bolt ring. Necklace has been tested and is guaranteed to be sterling silver. If you have an interest in gemology as well as wearing beautiful neck pieces please have a look at this wonderful representation of fine Tourmalinated Quartz with black needle like inclusions. The condition is excellent and is ready to be worn and enjoyed for many years, quite a conversation piece.
There are many healing and metaphysical properties associated with Tourmalinated (or tourmalated) Quartz, too many to list but easily found on the internet. For those of you wondering what the difference between Tourmalinated and Rutilated quartz is: Tourmalinated Quartz contains Tourmaline gemstone inclusions and are usually black or green. While Rutilated Quartz contains inclusions of rutile which are titanium oxide, can be gold, red, brown and sometimes black, and usually are much finer and somewhat feathery in appearance.
